MADEIRA EMBROIDERY HISTORIC TOUR AT BORDAL

MADEIRA EMBROIDERY HISTORIC TOUR AT BORDAL

In Bordal it is possible to visit the Historic Tour of the Madeira Embroidery that is open side by side with its production. This course portrays 150 years of history of the handicraft process of production of Madeira Embroidery, that continues with the same authenticity since its beginning.

WHAT WILL YOU FIND IN THE HISTORIC TOUR?

ANTIQUE PHOTOS

In this tour, you will find photographs of old factories, from the Vicentes Photography Museum, which guide us and show the process of manufacturing Madeira Embroidery. These photos are placed exactly where today this production is made live at the Bordal's factory.

ANCIENT DRAWINGS

In this point, we can find old catalogs, squares, wooden compasses and old books and drawings. Bordal, in our days, has an extensive collection of more than 40 thousand original designs used for the production of Madeira Embroidery

TRANSFER PLATES AND STAMPING

We can see old materials and photographs that show the process of passing the drawing to the fabric with the help of the 'ball' that passes the blue paint through the stamping plate. At this point we can also see the first stamping register and the old blue past. This old past was replaced by a special product created by Bordal, since the previous past contained petrolium which made it very intense and harmful.

RECEIVER, DOCUMENTS AND REGISTRATION BOOKS

It is possible to visit the area where once and still today the embroiderers go to receive the fabrics to embroider at their home. The same place where they later deliver them. In this space, Bordal holds a unique and rare document from the former 'Grémio' of Industrial Embroiderers, books and records of Bordal's first embroiderer and first employee dating back to 1962.

ANTIQUE EMBROIDERY AND DUKES OF YORK'S COLLECTION

On the third floor of the Bordal, we can find a special point of the historical tour, it's possible to see several embroidered pieces executed by Bordal from the date of its foundation in 1962. From these stands out the replica of the outfit of the first daughter of the Dukes of York, Sarah and André executed in 1988. We can also find the first Bordal logo, the first register of raw materials and some old embroidery tickets.

The Bordal's Historic Tour can be visited from Monday to Friday.
