Established in 1963, Bordal is the most important and one of the oldest manafacturers and exporters of the famous Madeira embroidery. The linen and cotton is transformed in the skilled hands of the Madeiran craftswomen, creating delicate textures. Bordal was aquired eight years ago by the present owners, Susana and João Vacas, and has undergone reorganization based on innovation and design. Last December, the company published a book written by the Madeira historian Alberto Vieira, in which the history of one of the most emblematic products of Madeira is registered. In a tribute to the embroiderers and all those who have contributed to the preservation of this art, the publication also reveals the techniques of embroidery and stiches that characterise it. | | |
